Far East might be aroused. This is sufficient to show

their evil intentions and cunning tricks. At that time

our Chinese students and others resident in Germany

taking this as part of a plan for the partition of China

and an insult to us Chinese, rose in a body and made a

protest, in order to put on their guard those Germans who still had any regard for justice. Much comment on the subject appeared in the German Press, and the Chinese

there were ridiculed as having fussed over much about the

incident. All these are facts that cannot be disguised.

Can the German Consul still deny that the Germans have not entirely abandoned their ambition to recover Kiao-chow

in the Far East ? His statement in his letter that the

German Colonial Movement was limited to Africa and

America(?) and did not embrace Tsingtao in China is a lie pure and simple. The Germans have been very anxious to recover their colonies in Africa, and therefore they have established an African Dining Club for the purpose.

But shortly after its establishment there sprang up the China Dining Club, the object of which, as inquiry shows,

is to recover Tsingtao.

Africa is still merely a dark continent and its

natives have not yet become civilized. Now Germany has

treated us Chinese on the same level as Africans: what

an insult it is to us ! If we can tolerate this, we can tolerate anything. Alas! Does the German Consul want mutual treatment on a basis of equality between us and refuse to perform his side of the bargain? If equality was ever taken into consideration at all, how could the present events have come to pass?

The above is a brief account of the facts, and we quote them to prove the truth of our previous report. At present both China and Germany are under the yoke of

Imperialism. We should help each other and endeavour to
